I was disappointed when a special quilt was not juried into a show and received some great advice from my son, then six years old. He recommended that I make a rocket quilt since there were few of those in quilt shows. "Blasting Off with Ben" tells our rocket quilt story. The background is hand-painted to show that perfect time of day when the sky's colors go from orange to black. The moon is hand-painted with a tiny U.S. flag with footprints. The rocket windows reveal our family: Ben, me, Tyger and Cora (our dogs). Showing at the movie theater is "Destination Moon" - a movie from the 1950s. A tiny movie poster from the movie hangs outside. Look for other tiny images in the cityscape - from billboards to parking meters. 2013
